SIMS Assessment Manager is one of the most powerful school improvement tools available - make sure you use it effectively.

SIMS Emerge at BETT 2011

I had a quick look at SIMS Emerge at this week’s BETT show. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it is fundamentally a registration tool at the moment, but its sheer mobility introduces some interesting new possibilities:

  • PE teachers can take the register on the school playing fields.
  • Leaders on school field trips can not only take the register but get quick access to emergency medical and contact details
  • Teachers can walk the corridors in school, approach a pupil and have all that pupil’s attendance and behaviour details in front of them, complete with a photograph to make sure they have the correct pupil!

So, who will SIMS Emerge appeal to? I think broadly two types of school will purchase Emerge: schools who need to focus on attendance or behaviour because of a perceived issue within the school, and schools who have already invested in iPhone or iTouch technology.

You may already know that SIMS Emerge is basically a re-badged version of Groupcall Emerge. You’ll find this is an interesting video of GroupCall Emerge.

Future developments will include links to SIMS Assessment Manager and may also include an android version.

As for pricing, secondary schools can expect to pay £299 per annum for the first device, followed by £99 per annum for subsequent devices. A site license is also available for just under £3,000 per year. Primary schools will pay £199 per annum for the first device and have a site license option at £1,999 per year (and I’m sure someone from Capita will correct me if I misheard those prices!).

Edugeek also posted this video, taken at BETT 2011, which includes a presentation of SIMS Emerge. Start viewing from just about 2 minutes into the video.
